PRESS RELEASE
DECEMBER 16, 2004
Mountain Home, AR. - Big Creek Golf and Country Club was recently
honored by Golf Magazine for being one of the 50 best courses in
the US you can play for $50 or less. The magazine's September 2004 issue
includes their 2004 "Course Guide" section and an article
entitled "The Thrifty 50" lists Big Creek at #48.
The article states: "These are the courses we set out to find: the
best golf experiences, conditions, and aesthetics for $50 or less - and
that's peak-season, peak-time (weekends, before 3 p.m.). We polled our
editors, our nationwide stable of contributors, industry insiders and
regional golf experts. Then we started digging. As expected it was slim
pickings in glitzy resort towns. But do you need a better reason to get
out and see America? At these rates, money's no longer an excuse. Fifty
dollars was our cutoff, and these courses would be worth playing if they
doubled their prices."
The write-up of Big Creek states in part: "Big Creek sits on a
fairly flat site (for the Ozarks), but its breathtaking mountain views
won't let you forget where you are. The course keeps play exciting with
long, fescue-lined holes and perplexing greens. There are a few
breathers thrown in but you'll find that holes 7, 8 and 9, a trio of
bruising par 4s, earns its nickname: The Gauntlet."
"Coming on the heels of being awarded five stars by Golf Digest
this spring we are pleased with this national recognition," said
Lang Zimmerman, managing partner of Big Creek's owners, Mountain Land
Group, LLC. "Golf Magazine incorrectly listed us as being
located in 'Mountain Home, AK.' which of course would put us in Alaska
but they contacted our photographer to get a picture for use in a
correction in a future issue so they're trying to get it straight. At
least they printed our phone number and web site so that people could
find out where we really are. Any time you can get a good mention in one
of these national, multi-million circulation magazines it raises your
profile and brings people to the area. Our green fee play increased by
nearly 20% after the Golf Digest ranking came out this
spring."
Big Creek is also one of the eight facilities awarded with a spot on the
new Natural State Golf Trail which is being promoted by the Arkansas
Department of Park & Tourism. More information on the trail can be
found at www.naturalstategolftrail.com
or by calling 1-866-2-GOLF-AR.
Big Creek is a semi-private course offering both membership and public
play. The course is located on the western edge of Mountain Home on Hwy
62/412. Their phone number is (870) 425-8815 and their web site is www.bigcreekgolf.com.
