Moments before The Alotian PGA Professional Matt Fraser presented the awards, nine-year-old Berklee Turner of Cabot, turned to her mom, Tracy.  “We did it, Mom,” she said.

Berklee and her parents advance to Augusta National Golf Club next April after her win in the Girls 7-9 Regional Qualifier.

Berklee started working with Darter, an Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame inductee when she was five.  “She has phenomenal touch,” Darter said.  “She is an information sponge.  From the day I first met her, it was easy to see her enthusiasm to learn, not many like Berklee come along.”

When asked about her favorite golfers, she quickly said “Maria Farsi, Gaby Lopez and Brooke Matthews.  They are all Razorbacks and I want to play golf for the Razorbacks.”

She said another golfer gave her inspiration.  “Tiger Woods is coming back, and he may be better than ever!”

About a half-hour after the awards ceremony, Darter asked me if I knew how he could get a ticket to the National Finals, as Dawn will be accompanying Berklee as a PGA member. Something tells me, Gary will find a way.
