ASGA Interns at the 2026 USGA P.J. Boatwright Summit

Hear from our ASGA interns on their trip to Far Hills, New Jersey for the USGA P.J. Boatwright Summit

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. (May 22) — My name is Maya Komanetsky, and I currently serve as the six-month Marketing and Communications Intern with the Arkansas State Golf Association. Parker Wells, one of the ASGA’s championship administration interns, and I had the incredible opportunity to represent the association at the 2026 P.J. Boatwright Intern Summit at USGA headquarters in Liberty Corner, New Jersey.

Throughout the week, I formed relationships with fellow Boatwright Interns and heard from USGA executives about leadership, innovation and the future of the game.

On the first day, we dove right into the history of the Boatwright Internship Program with Daniel Magen, the programs administrator. Learning about the origins of this incredible internship opportunity and the legacy of the Boatwright family made it even more meaningful to be part of the program.

We also heard from championship administration staff and former interns, where they talked about the handicapping system, rules of golf and behind-the-scenes work in the broadcasting room.

Later that day, I had the chance to flashback to my high school golf days and compete in the Putting Championship. Parker led the competition into a sudden-death putt off, missing the first-place only after a sneaky uphill putt had other plans.

On the second day, we heard from Boatwright donors and directors at GHIN. We also got a sneak peek at the new branding for the GHIN app and had the opportunity to provide feedback. I was quickly convinced to start tracking my own handicap.

My favorite moment of the trip was hearing from USGA CEO, Mike Whan. His journey to his role at the USGA was truly inspiring. He shared the highs and lows he faced throughout his career and how he persevered through each challenge.

Although the summit included early mornings and unexpectedly warm temperatures for the Northeast, it only enhanced my excitement to begin this journey with the ASGA. Parker and I are incredibly appreciative of the staff members and supporters who devoted their time to making this experience possible. We are also grateful for the meaningful relationships we formed and will carry with us throughout our careers.

We look forward to sharing our experiences with the rest of the staff at ASGA, and we’re excited for the summer ahead!
