Austin Cook Junior Championship Debuts with Strong Competition in Jonesboro
The inaugural Austin Cook Junior Championship brought together 66 of Arkansas' top junior golfers for a high-level, two-day tournament at RidgePoint Country Club in Jonesboro, September 6-7.
Jonesboro native, PGA TOUR winner, and University of Arkansas alum Austin Cook welcomed players to his home club and stayed actively involved throughout the championship. After the opening round, Cook hosted a lively range clinic, answering questions, offering demonstrations, and inspiring the young competitors with both instruction and encouragement.
On the course, the competition was tough. Jack Denery set the pace in round one with an impressive 6-under performance, while the girls' division turned into a Sunday showdown between Susanna Manns and Lillie York. Manns held her ground down the stretch to finish at 7-over and secure the girls title.
On the boys' side, Henry O'Keefe put together two solid rounds and showed poise under pressure, closing strong to claim the championship at 6-under. His steady play over the two days earned him the honor of being the event's very first boys' champion.
For Cook, the event was about more than just golf.
"This championship is my opportunity to give back to the game and the community that gave so much to me," said Cook. "Arkansas has tremendous junior talent, outstanding golf courses, and the resources needed to grow the game at every level. I'm excited to be part of the journey for the next generation of Arkansas golfers."
From the driving range to the final putt, the competition and Cook's presence and engagement with the players made the inaugural championship a memorable weekend for junior golf in Arkansas.
