In his redshirt freshman season, South competed in all 12 events for the Trojans and was named the Ohio Valley Conference freshman of the year. The season was highlighted by 18 rounds of par-or-better and at the Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate, South posted the lowest score by a freshman in school history. Before starting his budding college career, South also succeeded at the high school level. He led the Farmington Cardinals to a 4A state individual and overall championship in 2021 and runner-up titles in 2020. On top of the state titles, South is a three-time individual conference champion. He's no stranger to excellent golf and if he looks familiar, you may have seen him hoisting up several ASGA trophies!

South has played numerous tournaments with the ASGA in his junior golf career, even adding some hardware in the process. His most recent win was at the 2022 Arkansas Junior Amateur Championship, where he received the Walter Davis Trophy. This was South's first victory since 2020 when he won the 2020 Arkansas Junior Match Play Championship.

Now that college golf is in the off-season, many collegiate golfers hit the road and travel to the many amateur events all over the country. South is no different as he and other golfers, from Stanford to the University of Florida, are competing in the TMGA Amateur Championship in Andover, Kansas. At the conclusion of the first round, South is tied for sixth place, but only 3-strokes behind the leader.

Starting on the 10th hole, South birdied his first four holes to start the day. After finding several more birdies and controlling bogeys on holes 9 and 18 he finished at 5-under-par. There are still two rounds left to be played, where South will try to hold his ground in the No. 1 position.
